Game Tourism

Game tourism is the activity of game hunting activities, with recreational or commercial ends. The game hunting exercise comprises the following modalities.

Hunting through simple license

Hunting through simple license is made by the local communities, in the sustainable use conservation areas and in the buffer zones as a means of satisfying personal use necessities.

Game hunting

Game hunting is practiced by national or foreign individuals, in the official hunting areas, game farms and other sustainable use conservation areas and buffer zones, in accordance with the management plan.

Commercial hunting

Commercial hunting is practiced by natural or legal persons in game farms with the obtaining of spoils or trophies for commerce, through the wild animal species breeding in in accordance with the Protection, Conservation and Sustainable Use of Biologic Diversity Law and further applicable legislation.

The country has around 70 hunting areas, divided in 20 official game hunting areas, 9 hunting blocks, 13 community programmes and 31 game farms. The hunting areas are awarded through public tenders and managed by whom is designated, signing an agreement with the Government. The tender will be published in this website whenever one opens.

Taxes per Animal

This table shows the animal slaughter taxes, whose hunting is allowed, in accordance with the Article 100, point 1, in the Regulation of Law nº 10/99, from July 7th.

Game Hunting Licence

It’s a document that authorizes the hunter to practice game hunting in a determined area (in official game reserves, hunting blocks in the Niassa National Reserve, game farms and the Tchuma Tchatu and Chipanji community projects) in a specific hunting season for animals animals whose quotas have been approved and published in accordance with the law.

Through the presentation of a letter from the concession company for the game reserve, community project or game farm where the tourist will be hunting, addressed to the appropriate authority. The letter should contain information about the time period and duration of the hunting safari, tourist’s origin, probable dates of arrival and departure, species and amount of animals to be hunted.

  • You must be over 18 years of age.
  • Licence to use and carry firearms.
  • Have slaughter quota available in the hunting area.
  • 2 passport sized photos.
  • Copy of ID for national citizens or copy of passport for foreign citizens.
  • Letter from the concession company for the game reserve, community project or game farm where the tourist will be hunting, addressed to the appropriate authority. The letter should contain information about the time period and duration of the hunting safari, tourist’s origin, probable dates of arrival and departure, species and amount of animals to be hunted.
  • Present the deposit certificate for the values for the licence and supplemental vouchers to be acquired upon delivery.
  • National Administration for the Conservation Areas (ANAC), City of Maputo.
  • Tete Provincial Directorate for Land, Environment and Rural Development (Tchuma Tchatu programme), City of Tete.

5 working days, counting from the submission date.

The game hunting licence expires with the hunting season from April 1st to November 30th, unless otherwise indicated in the decree that publishes the annual slaughter quota for the respective hunting season.

Hunting Guide Certificate

It’s a document issued by ANAC or the Tete Provincial Directorate for Land, Environment and Rural Development (for the Tchuma Tchatu Programme), that enables an individual to conduct a safari expedition.

Through a letter from the concession company for the game reserve, community project or game farm where the guide will be performing the task, addressed to the ANAC Director or to the Provincial Director for Tete Land, Environment and Rural Development (for the Tchuma Tchatu Programme) asking for the issuing of the certificate.

  • 2 passport sized photos.
  • Copy of ID for national citizens or copy of passport for foreign citizens.
  • Letter from the concession company for the game reserve, community project or game farm where the guide will be performing the task, addressed to the ANAC Director or to the Provincial Director for Tete Land, Environment and Rural Development (for the Tchuma Tchatu Programme) asking for the issuing of the certificate.
  • Present the deposit certificate upon delivery.
  • Professional game hunter certificate issued by a recognized institution.
  • After registering the request’s entry, the applicant can pick up the certificate after 5 working days.
  • National Administration for the Conservation Areas (ANAC), City of Maputo.
  • Tete Provincial Directorate for Land, Environment and Rural Development (Tchuma Tchatu programme), City of Tete.

The hunting guide certificate expires with the hunting season from April 1st to November 30th, unless otherwise indicated in the decree that publishes the annual slaughter quota for the respective hunting season.

CITES Licence

It’s an official document used to authorise the import, export, re-export or introduction of the species listed by CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora). This document should in accordance with the demands from CITES and the Resolutions of the Conference of the Parties, otherwise it will be considered invalid.

The CITES licence can be requested by any natural or legal person, national or foreigner, with or without residence in Mozambique.

  • Dully completed application form.
  • Characteristics of the species originating the request.
  • Purpose, origin and destination.
  • Copy of licence that legitimates the acquisition.
  • Competent veterinary services licence or certificate.
  • Import licence, for species in the Appendix 1 of CITES.
  • Other licences and certificates required by the CITES convention.
  • National Administration for the Conservation Areas (ANAC) headquarters, in physic or electronic format.

7 working days, counting from the submission date.

  • The export and re-export licenses are valid for a 6-month period counting from the issuing date.
  • The import licences for species included in the Appendix I are valid for a 12-month period, counting from the issuing date.

For issuing licences for export, re-export and introduction of species included in the Appendixes of CITES, the following taxes are charged:

  • Issuing of the above mentioned documents – 10.000 MZN
  • Licence or certificate renewal – 7.500 MZN
  • Duplicate – 10.000 MZN

In case of export for scientific or investigation purposes, only the document issuing will be charged.
